A story of empowerment

A lot of my work focuses on supporting people, particularly women, to find their voice—whether that is in writing or spoken—and effectively pitch themselves through their communications. Here is a quick insight into this work.

Approach & Methodologies

Linguistic Framing Techniques; Copywriting Frameworks; Developmental Editing

In this work, I support individuals with their presentations, applications, or any scenario where they need to feel more confident in their words. This process often starts with developmental editing, in which I ask my client prompting questions to support them in developing their work. This is an important stage to bring out the author’s personal voice first. To do this, I bring in tools from a wide toolkit — from writing craft techniques to my understanding of applied linguistics and branding — and ensure my questions and suggestions are empathetic and prompt reflection. Once this is complete, there are often two further rounds of copyediting and proofreading so that the individual can send it off or walk into that presentation with the utmost confidence.

“Finola supported me with the writing of my Master’s Application, including a research proposal and motivation letter. She helped me find more confidence in the way I was “selling” myself and to phrase things in a more precise and confident way. With a first draft, she quickly understood what my strengths are and guided me to spell out what it is that I bring to the table and why the application committee should consider me. Her inputs were very on point and helped me to define my artistic identity on a scale beyond this specific application. Her notes were written with a lot of sensitivity, empathy, and encouragement. I would work with Finola anytime again and can full-heartedly recommend a collaboration with her.”

As part of my mission to support others in not just identifying their voice, but raising their profile and fulfilling their desires through effective content, I develop resources to support them in developing themselves, their professional voice, or their own business.

“I am thrilled with Finola's help—She demonstrated exceptional flexibility in accommodating my schedule, and her insightful comments and feedback were instrumental in prompting a thoughtful reconsideration and restructuring of my writing. Leveraging her expertise in marketing and pitching was immensely beneficial, allowing me to articulate crucial phrases to highlight both myself and my work. I would not hesitate to recommend her services at any time!”
